Why I’m Running – Statement from Katie Kresly
Academics First. Safety Always.
I’m running for the Highline School Board because our students deserve better. After three years of attending school board meetings and speaking with parents, teachers, and students, I’ve seen how far the district has strayed from its core mission: to educate every child in a safe, supportive environment.
Today, too many students are graduating without the ability to read or write confidently. Parents feel left out. Teachers feel overwhelmed. The system is not working for the very people it is meant to serve.
It’s time to refocus on what matters most: helping every child succeed academically, supporting the educators who care for them, and making sure schools are places of safety, growth, and possibility. That’s why I’m running—to restore trust, raise expectations, and make Highline a district where every student can thrive.
